Highlights of this project.
On this 15 day challenge you will be working alongside a Cambodian family on a new house in which they will start new lives. Most families living in such conditions have little chance of improving their situations without assistance and life is a daily battle for most. Your hard work and enthusiasm will help the homepartner family achieve their dream of having a simple, decent place to live. A Habitat house in Cambodia is usually 32 sq metres in size. The walls are made from fired brick with a reinforced concrete post. The layout comprises a living room, bedroom and kitchen with a toilet. On your rest days, you will be able to spend time with the locals, learning about Cambodia's fascinating cultural diversity and history and exploring some of the local places of interest.

The benefits you bring in making this journey.
About 93 per cent of Cambodians live in the countryside, so poverty is primarily a rural phenomenon. But after the communist Khmer Rouge regime fell in 1979, an influx of migrants from the rural areas to the capital Phnom Penh resulted in the formation of urban poor communities. These sprawling poverty-stricken communities lack secure tenure or basic services. Families settle in every conceivable empty space, from courtyards and rooftops to the sides of railway tracks, riverbanks and swamps.
